PHOTO GALLERY PUUKKOS

One puukko is small in size, but large in cultural importance.

The Sami used to make their own tools by hand, sculpting the handle their knives in reindeer wood. This traditional raw material, used for centuries in the extreme north of Scandinavia, was an integral part of Sami life. Since the late 1960s, only a few of them have mastered the art of working reindeer wood.
