In Kauhava, Reino Kamppila released in the 1990s a puukko with a black flank blade and a handle birch. We call him Ahti. The Janne son is at the establishment.

History Company Ahti
Kamppila family: Fourth generation of puukkosepät in Kauhava. Reino (3rd) launches the first Ahti « mustakylki » (black flank) in the early 1990s. Ball + dark blade = success. Already six-digit volume according to Kivikangas.
Janne the son joined the company in the early 2000s.
Laurin Metalli blades: manufactures blades carbon-vanadium / 80CrV2 ~58–60 HRC (often ~59) stainless steel Chromium-vanadium ~57 HRC (RST). Ahti logo engraved light.
Handles birch, Flax oil (usually tinted). Brass. Sheath leather piece by piece, insert, often passing on ring.
Long silk, nut visible to the cheek on traditional models — more rigid than a short silk glued.
No website Ahti ; distribution via Kivikangas; Kamppila workshop in Kauhava.

Ahti. He's the Finnish god of water.
Same as Kauhavan Puukkopaja?
No. Koski 1995 / Kamppila (Ahti) = two families. Same supplier of blades (Lauri), different mountings. Ahti: long silk + nut.
Carbon or RST?
Carbon for the wire. RST (~57 HRC) if moisture / forgotten oil.
Good first puukko ?
Yes: Metsä carbon, ~50 €, Kauhava, oiled koivu visa.
Sheath Ring?
The knife hangs and turns. Sitting comfort; a little less « glued » on the belt.
