History Kauhavan Puukkopaja
Iisakki (Iisakki Heikinpoika Pikkuluhta), Born on 7 January 1859 in Kauhava, died on 6 March 1929. Self-taught: he makes his tools. On October 20, 1879, to his fiancée Liisa: « I decided to become puukkoseppä. » Freedom to undertake just voted.
With his cousin Juho Kustaa Lammi, he fixed the puukko Kauhava: more slender, more decorated than the rough work knife.
Lammi creates the horse head (first for a cavalry ride). Iisakki popularizes veriura (bra, « blood groove » — decorative role / lightening, not blood) around 1905.
1888 : puukko gift for the tsarevich, future Nicolas II.
1894 : pair of horse heads for the Tsar and Alexandra, coronation. Title: Keisarin puukkoseppä (Forgeron of the Emperor).
1898–1904 : foreman at the Kauhavan puukkotehdas; Unfulfilled promises.
15 February 1904: It reopens its factory (Pukkila).
1919 : Go to the wires. Current plant: Building 1958, Passintraiti 32. Shop + museum. Always Kauhava, parts made on site, no computer in prod, 1920-70 machines, home tool. Blades: once forged; Today Thyssen sheets (specified alloy), cold-pressed, hand-stamped five times. Delivery to the armed forces (RUK, weapons).
Photo 1929: one puukko Kauhava in the belt of John Wayne (dark path).
Highlights / weak points
Forces
- The most Kauhava shape « historical ». Tuohi: unique, light, traditional, older than birch at home.
- Brass horse head cast on site. Hand-to-helo engraving. All under the same roof.
- Wire carbon sharp, scandi. Aito / Askare: real tools, not just memory. Repairable, sharpenable. The longest record (1879).
Weakness
- Many gift/tourism models (double sheath, steak, cast dogs).
- Tuohi varnished: less « tool » than handle oiled Roselli.
- Steel carbon classic, not UHC.
- Hidden silk.
- Horse head price (~230 €) = the ornament is paid.
- Large catalogue, risk of drowning puukko work.
In one sentence
Järvenpää wins on Kauhava with the horse head; It quickly slides to memory if you don't choose the model.

Conclusion
Iisakki Järvenpää is the puukko before the Tourist Lapland: a guy from Kauhava who, in 1879, invented his profession and, with Lammi, the style that all the Ostrobotnie copies. Less « secret steel » than Roselli, less stainless steel Fjord than Helle, less volume than Marttiini. More original ornament.
